Changelog

What has changed, when, and — where something was wrong — what it was. Corrections are listed rather than quietly applied, because a tool that gives you a number should tell you when that number moved.

Restructured into four sections

2026-08-21

  • The eleven tools were siblings off a single index, which left five of them reachable only from the all-tools grid. They now sit under four hubs — when to plant, soil and beds, water, and space and shelter — each of which explains the model its tools share.
  • Cross-links between tools are now chosen per page with the reason stated, replacing an identical block of six links generated from the same list on every page.
  • Added the sowing chart: the 24-crop timing table as a page in its own right.

Two arithmetic corrections found by hand-checking

2026-08-20

  • Harvest dates were six to nine weeks early for every crop raised under cover. Seed catalogues count days to maturity from the transplant date for those crops, not from sowing. Zone 6 tomatoes had been showing a first picking in May.
  • The spacing tool stated that an offset layout fits "about 15% more plants". That is true on a large bed and false on a narrow one, where the tighter row gap buys no extra row while alternate rows still lose a plant each. It now computes both layouts and reports the real difference, which on a 4 × 8 ft bed is 8% fewer.

  • Eleven calculators, frost dates for USDA zones 3–11 plus a maritime setting, and timing data for 24 crops.

Reporting an error

If a figure here is wrong I would genuinely like to know, particularly on the frost dates and crop timings where regional experience beats a published average. Email [email protected] with the page and what you think it should say.
